While we have quite a few outreach fundraising events leading up to and during the Portland Zine Symposium, the 10th Annual Portland Zine Symposium is the main attraction...

What: The 11th Annual Portland Zine Symposium
Theme: "Postmarked 2011"
Where: Refuge, 116 SE Yamhill St. Portland, Oregon
When: Saturday, August 6th, at 10:00am until 6pm and Sunday, August 7th, at 10:00am until 5:00pm
Who: Presented by local zinesters, comic makers, artists, and writers. Attended by independent publishing enthusiasts from all over the world!
Why: To promote greater community between diverse creators of independent publications and art. This fun and free event helps people share their work while exchanging their skills and information related to zine culture. Through workshops, panels and discussions, Portland Zine Symposium explores the role and effect of all types of zines.

The Portland Zine Symposium is a free, two day conference and social gathering, celebrating independent publishing. PZS features tables and tables (over 200 tablers each day) full of zines, independently published works, and other DIY items for purchase.

We also will be having several outreach events leading up to the 11th Annual Portland Zine Symposium, starting with Word Game Wednesdays at The Waypost and with several more, Zinester's Spelling Bee, PZS Music Show, IPRC Open House and Open Mic, PZS Bike-In Movie, and more with locations and dates TBA. Keep an eye on our events page or subscribe to our newsletter to find out about them all!

A little background: A zine is a self-published magazine usually produced by an one person or a small group of people. The Portland Zine Symposium is a place for people to meet, share ideas, learn, and, of course, trade zines. There will be over 30 hands-on workshops and discussions on topics like silk screening, starting distros, radical culture within zine communities, and making zines.

Numerous local businesses will be helping to promote PZS in a variety of ways, which include donating items for PZS to raffle, helping to provide food/drink during PZS, and providing spaces for fundraising and outreach events.

If you'd like to volunteer for the event, you can find more info here.

The Portland Zine Symposium is a 503(c)3 nonprofit organization. PZS will be wheelchair accessible.
