2009 PZS Volunteers needed!
Hey PZS friends!
This is Alex Wrekk, the Volunteer Coordinator for the Portland Zine Symposium. As you probably know, the 9th Annual Portland Zine Symposium is fast approaching (it's July 24, 25, 26!) and the PZS organizers are looking for a few good zinesters for help!
We have a variety of duties we'll be needing assistance with in the upcoming weeks; some are as simple as grabbing a stack of posters and handbills from the IPRC and hanging them up at your favorite people populated places, while other are more involved, like helping run the info table a couple of hours during PZS. Your involvement level is totally up to you and will be greatly appreciated! We'll even give you a PZS shirt!
We will need volunteers for all three days of the event as well as a few days before.
Here's a list of possible duties we need volunteers for:
- Hanging PZS posters around town
- Hanging posters around PSU the day of the event and writing directions with sidewalk chalk
- Helping keep the free food area clean
- Keeping the coffee flowing!
- helping set up and clean up at the extracurricular events at the IPRC and the Hawthorne Hostel
- Calling around for food and other donations
- Picking up food and other donations
- Assistants in volunteer coordination
- Helping tablers set up at the beginning of each PZS day
- Working the information table at the entrance
- Helping workshop/panel leaders set up
- Helping workshop/panel leaders and attendees find their rooms
- Helping tablers clean up at the end of PZS
- Helping the main organizers with miscellaneous tasks during PZS
Please keep in mind, you don't have to live locally to help out during the Portland Zine Symposium.
For some of these volunteer jobs, we may ask you to attend an orientation meeting or two before PZS. We have one meeting planned the Sunday before the Symposium: Sunday July 19th 5PM at Rocco's Pizza on the corner of 10th and SW Oak St. We will also have another orientation planned for Friday, July 24 in the morning before the symposium starts.
Please email me at brainscanzine@gmail.com or pdxzines@gmail.com for more info and to get on the volunteer mailing list.
If you live in Portland and would like to become more seriously involved with the PZS as a core organizer next year get in touch, we could really use you for next year's 10th Anniversary event. We plan on making it the biggest and best Symposium and hope to start the planning process in October!
Thanks for reading and see you at Portland Zine Symposium!
