Alex
Length of time with PZS?
I was there in the beginning in 2001, but I have taken a few years off from organizing but I have been to the zine Symposium every year since.
How did you get involved? / What attracted you to this job?
Portland is a city where someone says "I have this great idea" and a bunch of us all jumped up and said "that's a great idea, we are going to help!" I don't remember specifics but folks got together and the zine symposium came alive.
What do you do for PZS?
A little bit of everything and a whole lot of nothing. I'm the ghost of Zine Symposium Past. I guess I do a lot of promotion and behind the scenes stuff. I like doing the behind the scenes stuff.
Favorite parts of the event?
Drinking on my porch with all my houseguests in 2002. Oh wait, you mean each year? Um, I enjoy meeting people who I have only read their zines and making connections in real life. I love the energy that comes with the event.
Age, and anything you'd like to say about your self..
I moved to Portland in 1999 from Salt lake City, Utah when I was 22 and I'm turning 33 this summer. I love this city and I love the zine symposium for giving us the opportunity to share our home with folks from all over.
