Length of time with PZS?
This is my first year as a full-fledged member of the planning committee, but I’ve been tabling at PZS since the beginning with Sparkplug Comic Books, a zinester for 9 years, and I did some volunteer work at the symposium last year in addition to tabling. How did you get involved? / What attracted you to this job?
As someone who has been part of the small press community for years, it took a remarkably long time to decide to be a part of the Zine Symposium planning committee. My small part in the volunteer work last year was what made me want to get more serious about being involved in this event. After self-publishing and working at Reading Frenzy for so long, as well as most of my friends being self-published writers & comic artists, it seems to be the next logical step.
What do you do for PZS?
I am a member of the organizing committee.
Favorite parts of the event?
I love the workshops. There’s always one I miss that I really wanted to see because I get too busy at the event. I love that everyone that comes in is so psyched to be there and everyone is asking questions. Probably the raffle is one of my other favorite things. The businesses that donate prizes give out the best stuff!
Age, and anything you'd like to say about your self..
I am 38 – I have lived in Portland almost 12 years. I’ve published two issues of my zine I Was Born, But… and I’ve written for the monthly zine anthology Stumptown Underground. I’m also an artist and I’ve been in a few group shows here in town.
You might know me from..
I’ve been an on-again-off-again employee of Reading Frenzy for years. I also work on occasion at The Bad Apple, a cult movie and bookstore on SE Foster. You can see me in various coffee shops in SE PDX with a pile of library books and about six notebooks at a time.
