Bike-lovers, movie buffs, and zinesters! You're invited to the PZS Bike-In Movie Fundraiser presented by the Stumptown Underground and WTFBikes... Who: The Portland Zine Symposium, Stumptown Underground and WTFBikes What: Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, Bike-In Movie Night Where: WTFBikes Lot, SE 11th & Clay Why: To support PZS! When: July 31st at dusk Zines are awesome and July is International Zine Month! Help us celebrate International Zine Month and support the 10th Annual Portland Zine Symposium while enjoying this classic movie about one man's love for his bike... To keep with the bikey theme, issues of "Pedal Power," Stumptown Underground's 11th issue centralized around bikes and other self-propelled transportation will be on sell. To help support PZS, we'll be asking a $1-5 donation, but no one will be turned away due to lack of funds. "Pedal Power" will be featuring work from many fantastic and ziney people, including James Michael Williams, Amelia Opie, Ben Bush, John Isaacson, and Amelia J. The new issue will be making it's debut at PZS Bike-In Movie Night and be available for $5.There will also be foodcarts with food for purchase and a PZS raffle, so bringing cash if you got it is definitely a good idea! Are you a local business? The PZS Bike.-In Movie is just another outreach event brought to the community by PZS that you can help out with. Our 2nd Annual 24hr Zine Challenge!

Calling all ambitious zinesters! You're invited to the 2nd Annual, 24hr Zine Challenge, presented by the Portland Zine Symposium and the Independent Publishing Resource Center...

Who: The Portland Zine Symposium and awesome zinesters like you! What: The 2nd Annual 24hr Zine Challenge Where: The Independent Publishing Resource Center, 917 SW Oak St. #218 Why: To make zines and support PZS! When: July 24th at 10:00am until July 25th at 10:00am

Zines are awesome and July is International Zine Month! Get yourself one more zine finished for your PZS table, make some new friends over the dizzying madness of staying up too many hours, and help support the Portland Zine Symposium!

In order to meet the challenge, the PZS 24hr Zine Challengers MUST make a 24-page zine of an original, on-the-spot conception straight up to the final product in 24 hours straight. The zine should be of suitable size and technical difficulty so that this truly is a challenge for individual zinesters. The PZS 24hr Zine Challenge is brought to you by Portland Zine Symposium and the IPRC.

We will be providing some supplies (paper, glue, scissors, etc), snacks, and drink - anything you can bring will help. Bring any supplies you normally like to make zines with that you just can't live without! Also, you might want to bring pillows, snacks, and blankets... We are also asking registrants for a $5 donation which will help us cover any costs for supplies and food that are not donated, so we can make sure your well fed and fully supplied. The IPRC has two copy machines on hand to help you create your fabulous zine, available for 5 cents per side for members (trial membership is $25) and 10 cents per side for nonmembers.

So far, we know that we will have the following things for consumption at the 24hr Zine Challenge for participants... Coffee provided by Stumptown Coffee Roasters, tea by Stash, vegan pizza from Rocco's Pizza, vegan sandwiches provided by Jazzkat's Coffee Bar and more!

In addition to being a quite awesome challenge, this event will also be a major fund raiser for the Portland Zine Symposium

If you can't make it to the event, you can find a list of registrants on our website (here: http://www.pdxzines.com/writing/128/) and pick one to sponsor, marathon style! Once you've chosen a lucky challenger to back, we'll list you under their name as a supporter and you will only be asked to make the donation you've pledged if the challenger completes their zine. If you pledge more than $10, we'll provide you with a copy of the zine they've created! You pledge helps us raise funds to keep PZS affordable to table at for zine-makers (half table at the symposium are $20 for the whole weekend) and free to attend for zine-appreciators. To support a 24hr Zine Challenger, just email pdxzines@gmail.com with the name of the lucky participant you want to back and the amount you'd like to pledge.

If you're a challenger, request a form to print out to ask people to sign up on if they'd like to sponsor you, or you can direct them to our website (specifically here: http://www.pdxzines.com/writing/128/) from your blog or website and share the link on your favorite social network (email/facebook/twitter/etc.) to allow your friends to pledge. Your amazing creativity and endurance will really help us make the event a success!

We will also have a live video feed set up at the 24hr Zine Challenge, just like last year, so zine supporters anywhere can encourage the 24hr Zine Challengers and so 24hr Zine Sponsors can check in on who they've backed!

We've got a couple major announcements for you! First, are winning artwork for PZS 2010 has been chosen! Our winning artist is Lisa Rosalie Eisenberg and you can view the poster here, but, as you can see, her fabulous work has been applied to our website's design! Thanks to all who submitted artwork for the 2010 poster art call, it was a challenging design to pick the work to represent the convention this year. We would also like to announce that a close second was artwork from Brian Kaas, so we plan on making a special edition button from his submission, to be available at PZS, as well as printing his poster art on the back of the program.

Now here's the news you've been waiting for!

Registration for the 10th annual Portland Zine Symposium will open up at 4pm (PST) tomorrow, April 6th.

When you register, be on the lookout for a special question in your form, "Would you like to preorder a Special Edition, 10th Anniversary Program?" It adds just $1 to your donation total and ensures you will get the guaranteed-to-be-popular, zine style program we're cooking up to help commemorate our 1th anniversary!

Also, remember that we're moving from the Smith Ballroom to PSU's Main Gym this year. This means more space and more tables! It also means that PZS has to pay a ton more money to book the space. You can support us a variety of ways, but this year we've adding some special gifts for supporters able to contribute donations. As always, we love help at the event, too. Volunteers at the event get cool things like t-shirts and our undying gratitude.

The 10th Annual PZS!

You've emailed, you've posted on our facebook page, you've called and now we're finally able to tell you...

The 10th Annual Portland Zine Symposium will be August 28th & 29th, 2010!

In addition, this year's PZS will not be held in the Smith Ballroom, but it will instead be held at PSU's Peter W. Stott Main Gym.

We should be opening up registration in early April and we will be rolling out a new perk, early bird registration versus late registration.

In other news, you still have a month to try and make your original art THE art work to represent the 2010 Portland Zine Symposium. Just send us your "Zine Arcade!" inspired art! Guess what else? Moving to a new, bigger location is expensive, so you're going to see a lot of pre PZS events in the months before August to help us raise money for the event without jacking up tabling costs..
